CUSTOMS DECLARATIONS

  • From 1 January 2021, you'll need to make customs declarations when you import goods from the EU.
  • These rules currently apply to importing goods from the rest of the world, including Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

MAKE A CUSTOMS DECLARATION VIA KNIGHTS OF OLD

ACT DIRECTLY
  • You can appoint Knights of Old to act in your name.
  • You will be solely liable for:
    Keeping records
    The accuracy of any information provided on your customs declarations
    Customs Duty or import VAT due

DIRECT REPRESENTATION OR SIMPLIFIED DECLARATIONS
  • If you’re established in the UK and import goods into Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) you can appoint Knights of Old to act directly using their own authorisation, to make declarations using:
    Simplified declaration procedure
    Entry in the declarant’s records (Currently valid January-June 2021)
  • Knights of Old is currently working on a bespoke programme to fully support the customs declarations along with distribution from 1St Jan 2021

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN EORI NUMBER THAT STARTS WITH GB

  • You will need an EORI number to move goods between Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and the EU.
  • You may also need one if you move goods to Northern Ireland.
  • You will automatically receive an XI EORI number from HMRC if your business moves goods from Northern Ireland (NI)
  • You’ll not usually need an EORI number if you only:
    Provide services
    Move goods between Northern Ireland and Ireland
  • Apply for an EORI number as soon as possible - it can take 1 week
 

YOU NEED TO PAY CUSTOMS DUTIES & VAT ON ALL IMPORTS

USE THE UK GLOBAL TARIFF
  • Check the UK Global Tariff that will apply to goods you import
  • The UK Global Tariff will apply to all goods you import from 1 January 2021 unless an exception applies. eg:
    Are from a developing country that pays less or no duty because it’s part of the Generalised Scheme of Preferences
    Are from a country that has a trade agreement with the UK
    Have a relief or tariff suspension that’s operated by the UK
  • To use the UK Global Tariff you will need either the commodity code or product description

IMPORT DECLARATIONS

  • From 1 January 2021, you'll need to make customs declarations when you import goods from the EU
  • In some situations, you can delay making a declaration for up to 6 months after you imported the goods.

DELAYED DECLARATIONS FOR EU GOODS

IMPORT DECLARATIONS
  • You must follow the normal rules for making an import declaration if either:
    Your goods are controlled
    HMRC has told you to, because you have a poor compliance record
But if you import goods that were in EU free circulation into Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) free circulation between 1 January and 30 June 2021 and the goods are not controlled, you can:
  • Declare these goods by entering them in your own records without getting authorisation in advance
  • Delay sending HMRC the full information about your goods by up to 6 months on a supplementary declaration

FREE CIRCULATION
You must be moving goods from the EU into free circulation (declared and customs duties paid).
This can be one of the following:
  • Directly from import
  • From a customs special procedure (for example customs warehousing)
  • From a temporary storage facility
  • Using transit – if the movement of the goods started in the EU

SAFETY AND SECURITY DECLARATIONS
You must be moving goods from the EU into free circulation (declared and customs duties paid).
 
 
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU WITH EVERY CONSIGNMENT:
In all cases we will require:
 
COMMERCIAL INVOICE for each consignment  that clearly includes:
  • Description of goods and quantities.
  • Correct Commodity Codes (10 digits).
  • INCO TERMS
  • CPC Code (Customs Procedure Code)
  • Country of Origin
  • Value & Currency
 
PACKING / DESPATCH LIST that shows:
  • Commodity Number of the goods , quantity and Gross & Nett weight for each commodity.
  • Total number of packs.
  • Total Gross Weight
  • Total Nett Weight.
