LEARN TO DRIVE A LORRY AS AN APPRENTICE

LGV DRIVER LEVEL 2 APPRENTICESHIP

The Knights of Old Group are offering a limited number of Lorry Driver Apprenticeships - With a shortfall of 45,000 lorry drivers you will never be out of work as a lorry driver.
 
We are looking for motivated car drivers who are interested in a career in transport and logistics. You will work alongside our experienced, skilled and knowledgeable drivers who will mentor you in the role of a Cat C (Rigid) driver. The scheme is run in partnership with Merlin Academy, and on successful completion of the course, you will become a fully qualified Cat C (Rigid) driver.
 
HOW IT WORKS?
  • Apprenticeships are work-based training schemes that combine work with study.
 
TRAINING INFORMATION?
  • APPRENTICESHIP: Driving Goods Vehicles: Articulated/Drawbar Driver
  • LEVEL: 2 (equivalent to GCSEs at grades A* to C)
 
END POINT ASSESSEMENT:
  • The LGV Driver Level 2 apprenticeship contains an end-point assessment by an independent organisation to ensure that all apprentices follow the same standard and are assessed consistently.
 
ABOUT THE LGV DRIVER LEVEL 2 APPRENTICESHIP
This Apprenticeship is for individuals seeking to start or further their career in driving and delivering goods. The apprenticeship is delivered at Knights of Old Grpup and aims to give the driver the skills and knowledge to ensure that freight is moved safely, securely and cost-effectively.  The apprentice will be assigned a dedicated experienced assessor, to ensure they are supported fully throughout their programme. The assessors concentrate their efforts into making every apprentice into the very best goods vehicle driver that he/she can be, ensuring that they become an asset to your company with safety at the forefront of everything that they do.
 
LGV DRIVER LEVEL 2 APPRENTICESHIP
  • Safe, controlled and fuel efficient driving techniques relating to driving an LGV
  • Safe use of equipment and machinery
  • Vehicle preparation, including vehicle safety checks/inspections, defect reporting, safety requirements, loading, securing, unloading processes
  • Protect the vehicle and associated loads
  • Planning and preparing processes
  • Basic IT applications and other relevant technology and systems and how these are reported by use of Key Performance
  • Relevant regulation and legislation governing the supply chain industry specific to the role
  • How to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues appropriately,
    in line with situation and organisational style
  • Structure of the industry; the modes of transport and how these affect transport operations
  • Importance of delivering excellent customer service to customers and colleagues
  • Proposed and actual changes to systems, processes and technology used in the industry
  • Environmental impact of the industry, sector and role and how this can be minimised -
    safe and fuel efficient driving techniques
  • How the role can affect health; the need to maintain a level of fitness appropriate to their role
  • The implications of city restrictions - congestion charging - night restrictions - route restrictions -
    vehicle equipment requirements
  • The implications of driving on roads alongside vulnerable road users, such as cyclists, pedestrians, motor cyclists
