Road deaths are sub-Saharan Africa's third biggest killer

The 2017 Transaid - Transport for Life - Christmas Appeal launched with an ambitious £25,000 fundraising target. All money raised from the campaign help Transaid continue to transform lives through safe, available, and sustainable transport.

Transaid believe every driver should be able to leave for a day’s work without the fear they may not come home due to a lack of training, or dangerous vehicles and roads. But in sub-Saharan Africa, road deaths are the third biggest killer following HIV/AIDS and Malaria (Source: The World Bank) and the problem will only rise with the growing population. Transaid is working to change this.

Transaid work with partners and governments to train driver trainers, as well as to create and promote far-reaching improvements in driving standards, including curricula development. Transaid driver training programmes make drivers more competent, vehicles safer, and reduce death and injury on the road. They also work on transport management systems, joining with partners to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve the management and maintenance of fleets of vehicles.

In 2017 Transaid have trained 6,285 professional drivers and 46 driver trainers, the Christmas appeal will help Transaid further reduce sub-Saharan Africa's third biggest killer - road detahs..

The Knights of Old Group have support Transaid with their ambitious target, donating £800 to the charity.
