THE ENVIRONMENT

At Knights of Old Group we have a firm commitment and sense of responsibility towards the environment and we aim to minimise our impact on our surroundings. We recognise that minimising waste and saving energy is an essential part of business practice. Knights of Old Group is dedicated to improving the environmental performance of its business through the development and maintenance of an Environmental Management System (EMS), in line with the requirements of the international standard, ISO 14001:2004. The EMS will be regularly reviewed and provide an ongoing commitment through managerial and employee engagement to ensure continual environmental improvement and prevention of pollution. Additionally, Knights of Old Group is committed to complying with all relevant environmental legislation and other environmental requirements including targets set by clients.

To support this commitment, objectives and targets will be established and reviewed on a periodic basis. These will seek to address (amongst other issues) the following key aims:

OBJECTIVE 1:
To improve overall energy efficiency through carbon emissions reduction initiatives;
- All staff are trained to operate efficiently and to improve loading and route planning.
- Our drivers are trained to drive more eco-friendly.
- Partnerlink is a large part of the company’s environmental consideration. Partnerlink’s concept of  consolidating loads between partners maximises freight movement whilst reducing CO2 emissions.
- Our fleet renewal programme ensures that the fleet is constantly updated with the latest  technologies and vehicle idling is continually monitored.

OBJECTIVE 2:
To reduce waste arising from our activities and promote a higher percentage of re-use and recycling in all areas of our business;
- We recycle paper, cardboard, shrink-wrap, and damaged pallets.
- There is a water recycling facility for the truck wash.

OBJECTIVE 3:
To consider environmental issues through procurement activities;
- All of our vehicles are purchased with environmental protection features.

OBJECTIVE 4:
To actively involve colleagues and stakeholders in the company’s environmental initiatives and to motivate them to carry out tasks in an environmentally responsible manner.
-  Staff are encouraged to car pool where possible, and to recycle any office waste using the recycling points available in each building.

Through these practices we aim to reduce our impact on the environment, thereby helping to protect the future of our community.
